As emerging economic powers like China take on increasingly important roles in aid delivery, what will be the impact on donor efforts to promote governance in the developing world?
What is the “Beijing Consensus”? What are the implications of China’s rise for traditional development organizations and South-South partnerships between developing countries?



This panel will address how growing South-South partnerships are transforming the development landscape, as well as the implications of these relationships for good governance. Panelists will explore the impact of emerging economic powers such as China on local and donor efforts to promote improved governance and public-sector reform in the developing world.

Harnessing Military-Civilian Partnerships in Conflict Areas

What is the impact of military / private sector contractor involvement in recent humanitarian aid operations and development efforts?
How can development assistance be leveraged to manage the causes of instability and conflict? How can civilian-military cooperation help achieve aid effectiveness in fragile states / conflict and post-conflict areas?
What are some of the lessons learned and effective solutions in disaster relief and humanitarian assistance, from recent stabilization efforts (Haiti, Pakistan, Sudan)?



This panel will explore civilian-military partnerships in conflict-affected countries and disaster zones. Panelists will discuss how development solutions can be leveraged to manage the causes of conflict and violence around the world, and how effective civilian-military cooperation can help achieve aid effectiveness and security objectives in these areas. The panelists will incorporate lessons learned and best practices from recent stabilization and disaster relief efforts.

What role can women play in conflict prevention and reconstruction efforts?
How would engaging the untapped energies and capabilities of women help play a role in development?
How can the message of inclusive security be disseminated around the world?
What role can international organizations and government bureaucracies take in promoting women’s empowerment in developing countries?



This panel will focus on the role of women in conflict prevention and reconstruction efforts. Panelists will discuss how partnerships with women can be cultivated to promote growth and security in the developing world and how the message of inclusive security can be disseminated around the world.
